About S. Denice Newton
As a child, my favorite thing to do was read books and write stories about castles and palaces. I had a fascination with royalty. In the stories that I wrote, I would be the Princess that met the handsome Prince and rode off into the sunset to live happily ever after. It was my way of escaping a life that I didn't find to be very happy at times. Additionally, I had a fascination with words. I loved pronouncing them, reading them, and writing them. I would sit and read dictionaries and encyclopedias for fun. I would also watch news broadcasts and imitate my favorite anchors. That is when I first got the thirst for public speaking.
After placing first in an oratory contest in high school, I became a bit more encouraged about my path. However, I didn't pursue that particular path until after serving in the U.S. Army for a number of years. Being exposed to other cultures, languages, and ways of living through my military travels, I started to journal my experiences. Many of these experiences gave me an even greater appreciation of life in America. I wanted to let fellow Americans know that we live in the greatest country on planet earth. It was then that I returned to college to get the necessary training to become a polished public speaker.
After studying Communications at Regent University and University of Maryland University College, I decided to put the training to work. I started out being the church announcer at Grace Cathedral Family Worship Center in Vineland, NJ. Standing before the congregation weekly to give announcements, teaching Sunday school and occasionally Bible study, I began to grow and become more confident of my skills and abilities. I began to pray earnestly for God to prepare me to say what needed to be said to encourage, inspire and uplift others. He didn't waste any time in granting that request.
Whether encouraging children to stay in school, inspiring the single parent to return to school, helping the patient of depression to find tomorrow, helping the racist release the evil troll within, or simply empowering black Americans to stand strong and pursue avenues of change and personal self-development, I have been called and groomed to stand before the masses.
Working with at-risk, disadvantaged minority children has given me a sobering insight into their world and I work tirelessly to find ways to help. It is painful to watch children without goals, aspirations, or dreams because society says that they are destined to go from the cradle to prison with nothing but pain and turmoil in between. I love helping them find their passion. They deserve at least that much.
In 2010 I founded and started Generation BEFY Network, an acronym for black, educated, focused, and yielded. This movement is designed to encourage the pursuit of higher education and personal self-development as a counter and deterrent to destructive lifestyle choices in black youth such as gangs, drugs, and violence. My first conference to introduce the GBN was a great success!
In addition to working with youth and speaking publicly, I also co-host a popular internet radio show with Grammy-recognized singer/songwriter Skyler Jett called "Solutions Now! Radio." On this show, we host phenomenal guests from around the globe that come armed with answers and solutions to some of today's most pressing problems.
I have been featured in the Wilson Daily Times, Blog Talk Radio, Black Talk Radio, iZania.com, Hope 4 Today magazine, elev8.com, blackplanet.com, and The Vineland Daily Journal.
